The Pilot All Inclusive CTC National Standard Instructor Course

A pilot National Standard Instructor training course with a difference took place in Cornwall recently - it included an element of all ability cycling, with the provision of adapted cycles from charity Cycling Projects.

CTC delivered a new type of Instructor training course in Cornwall in April 2012 led by me the CTC's lead instructor trainer. As well as delivering a National Standard Instructor course, we introduced some of the concepts of working with people of different abilities.

We had a good taster of working with people of differing abilities and as one of the trainee instructors, John, was himself an amputee he gave us a deeper insight into issues that might arise. John brought his bespoke adapted bike which was specially interesting when we had to ride the multi lane roundabout. John came through it admirably. Cycling charity Cycling Projects also spent the day with us with a large variety of adapted bikes.

This is the first course of this type that I have run and as a pilot it was very well received. We learnt a lot about the different bikes available and how to adapt the sessions to include all. Cycling is inclusive after all. I will definitely be running further National Standard Instructor courses which include guidance on all ability cycling. If you need more information on this please contact me.
