MTB Bike Racing and BMX take off at the Trax
The Trax Bike Club meet up on a Saturday every week and have a lot to offer young people in the area who want to have a go at off road cycling. The area has had its fair share of problems, Lordship Recreation is next to the Broad Water Farm Estate where last year's riots started. The Trax Bike Club is really helping young people get involved in BMX and mountain biking
The off road track at Lordship Recreation is ideal for serious MTB racing or just messing around on bikes. Young people can join the Bike Club for free and don’t even need to have their own bike to take part. Once joined up Trax Bike Club members can borrow a BMX bike or use their own and have a go at riding the superb Lordship Loop track.
I went over to see a great day of action packed activities at the Bike Club in August. The morning session started with a warm up for those who wanted to take part in the Go Ride MTB bike race series, then the races proper took place. One young person was able to get his parents to fill in the joining forms, borrow a bike, race and get second place.
The race was very hard, I was leading until the last downhill!
Next came the grass track racing. Mia, who came second in her age group said:
“My favourite is racing on grass. The race was very hard, I was leading until the last downhill!”
Mia had a great day and was not bothered about being pipped at the post, she will be back for more.
The award ceremony went very well with winners getting medals certificates and Bike Club teeshirts and water bottles.
At 2pm the new BMX club met up. It attracted over 20 young people who had lots of fun getting a feel for riding the loop in the glorious sunshine. A wonderful day was had by all.
