Very disappointed with ITV4

1 May 2016 - 8:01am
What peeved me was that usually when there is a problem with live race pictures, the programme usually still starts with the presenters in the studio apologising, then showing pre-race interviews, ceremonial start etc, giving us what info they have about what is happening in the race, and then going to some archived footage of cycling.

A lot of people were peeved about the lack of coverage and aired their comments on Twitter but I did find a Twitter account to follow that was tweeting the action from the race as it happened. Was looking forward to seeing the highlights of the women's race when I got home from work tonight but it only amounted to 5 minutes at the beginning of the program and as soon as it was over I stopped watching the recording. To be fair it wasn't ITV4's fault as they take the feed from the broadcasters, Eurosport were in the same position too and had motorcycling on so no real difference in Eurosport broadcasting, you sit down to watch one sport only to find the other sport has started early/overrun.

Apparently the plane was on lease from Quantas.

No coverage of women's race? Excellent! No, I'm not Shane Sutton in disguise....had to work this morning so was very disgruntled at having missed it, but if it wasn't on then I haven't missed it....cool!

Apparently its rumoured they've also arrested a disgruntled australian in connection with the planes failure .

They're claiming technical issues (in particular, the plane that relays pictures back): http://www.itv.com/news/tyne-tees/2016- ... -coverage/

I heard gary imlach say "oh and we'll be here at 10am tomorrow". I had programmed a series link for all the coverage and when I got up thought hang on its not recording. So I put TV on to check schedule and there was no mention of the womens race, as you say it as the big fish off. My Radio Times has the program listed exactly as imlachs comment. Confusion down the line somewhere. But till something to look forward to later in the day for the main event..... hopefully.

Actually modern publishing seems quick to respond to changes in events etc. I get my RT delivered via royal mail( in a coach and horses ), it duly arrived on tuesday morning this week. Victoria wood had passed away on the previous wednesday and they had changed the cover imagery plus added articles etc to commemorate her work. Thats quite fast turnaround considering the mail would take 2 of those days. They must go to press really late in the day to be able to make last minute changes.

At this moment (11:16) it is even worse: something called The Car Chasers is on.

A load of Carp! literally!

The Tour de Yorkshire highlights said yesterday that there would be live coverage of the Women's race from 10am this morning.

But what do ITV4 put on instead? "the Big Fish Off"!

I'm half expecting this afternoon's coverage to be replaced by "Competitive Watching Paint Dry"!

I think I'm right in saying that 250watts/15mph is an EU directive and anything over is classed as a light moped equivalent requiring all the legislation that goes along with that ie;motorcycle helmet, reg plates,MOT and third party insurance.

One of the barriers to cycling in the UK has often been people saying "Well it's too hilly", with a pedelec hills might as well not exist.
Agreed, they iron out the hills which for reluctant potential cyclists is a boon.If agressive driving was clamped down on by the powers that be and better facilities provided cycling would go up in towns and cities, and pollution/car use would go down IMHO.

Pete Kennaugh looked to be filling the vacancy. Then felt the need to delete his Twitter account.
His CV has been saved for posterity though. [emoji1]

Not quite as simple as that - Jo Rowsell and Laura Trott have said that they've not had any issues with him. One of the male BMXers says that Sutton made his life a misery.

Shane Sutton may be a dinosaur from another age but that doesn't excuse his behaviour. More to the point, if you and I can see it, why couldn't the management at BC.

I don't think you can just dismiss Nicole Cooke's comments as sour grapes.

Nicole Cooke as much as I admire her would be a disaster , she never got along with the others, in her Biog she singles out Sutton and had alot of problems with him. The Varnish situation was a chance for her to come up with her accusations against him again
And why do you think she might have had problems with Shane Sutton?

Not bicycles, motorbikes.
I was in my LBS last month and saw two obviously fit young men picking up their electric mountain bikes ....... at a price that they could have bought Trials Bikes, the ones with i.c. engines.
Don't get it ....

Well obviously you don't get, like you wouldn't a car with pedals
FWIW I don't get 170mph road going motorcycles or cars the size of small trucks, which is IMO,a more valid stand point than any complaint that can be put forward regarding pedelecs

The thing is that if someone doesn't want to get all sweaty going to work or going up a mountain on a bike s/he can eliminate that part of the equation by buying a pedelec, what's the problem, after all you could be truly puritanical and walk or run everywhere?
They're not motorcycles because they're restricted to 15mph and 250matts,for that reason they don't need number plates,a motorcycle helmet,MOT or thrid party insurance,because they're deemed(rightly IMO)to be as benign as a bi/tricycle.

Not everyone wants to cycle for the same reasons, there's an element of elitism or puritanism in thinking they do.
There are those who think pedelecs devalue cycling, they don't because there'll be lot's more of them on the roads in the next 5 to 10years than you'll ever believe and there's a distinct chance they'll replace the car for short <5mile journeys, because of that there's a good chance they'll make cycling more mainstream and acceptable and in will help cycling generally, because it won't be able to be ignored by government as a valid, handy, cheap, and environmentally clean/friendly means of transport especially in cities where pollution is at it's highest, whatever your age or ability.
Like it or not if they take off in the way they've done in the rest of Europe, they'll do UK cycling the biggest favour we've ever seen.

So don't knock what could be a cycling saviour
