CTC Campaigning Achievement of the Year 2012 – Runner-up – John Metcalf

Mollom testing mode is still enabled.
John Metcalf set up and now chairs CycleHerts which brings together CTC groups, campaign groups and other cyclists’ organisations from throughout Hertfordshire. It also involves local authority officers and elected members.

John makes a major contribution to initiatives such as Local Transport Plans; and the county Active Travel Strategy and represents cyclists at forum meetings with Hertfordshire County Council putting in many hours of voluntary time every month. Over the last four years he found he had more time to be involved with direct campaigning for road safety, safe streets and neighbourhoods, active and sustainable travel.

John explained the reasons behind CycleHerts . “ It is to get more regular dialogue with the county council to try to ensure that their policies are helpful and, crucially, that they are followed through by good practice on the ground.”
