Deborah Weston

Highly commended: West Midlands, Deborah Weston.

Debbie has worked enthusiastically over the last 5 years to develop the Hopwood Ladies Cycling Club. Numbers have risen steadily along with improvement in the members’ abilities. The group’s ethos is fantastic: rides are inclusive of all levels, and less fit or able cyclists don’t have to ride the whole way until their fitness levels improve.

Debbie has raised the profile of female cycling and has been featured with the group in the local village magazine, on local radio and on the website.

During the last 12 months, she has continued with regular rides (approximately 3 per week), arranged a 2 week cycle camping holiday in Northern Ireland, 50 in 4 and 100 in 8 challenge rides, as well as networking with other women’s cycling groups (the Sandwich ladies from Kent and the Fabulous ladies from Cheshire). Debbie has teamed with other ongoing cycling projects and 4 women are now also with the Skyride project and 2 women (plus a male family member) are working with the bike-ability schemes.
