Volunteer of the Year for North West England, Jim Court.

Jim Court is the driving force behind Stockport Community Cycling Club – formed in

1999 to cater for 7-16 year olds and novice adult riders. The Club switched emphasis in 2005 to a more family orientated structure with leisurely, non-competitive rides for people of all ages.

Ridership has increased (over 160 have ridden with the club) as people have enjoyed rides ranging from 8 to 30 miles. The club has recently expanded activities to offer local summer weekday evening rides and longer Sunday rides in addition to the traditional fortnightly Saturday rides. 2007 even saw a weekend away in the Lake District. Membership is free on a “drop-in/drop-out” basis.

Jim organises the rides, arranges transport to distant locations, goes on route fact-finding missions and takes care of all administrative duties (insurance, promotion etc). Jim has brought many people back to cycling over the years through his enthusiasm, organisational skills and love of cycling.
